Live betting and live tables at Sun City Casino

What 'live' means on a South African casino floor, and what the law allows online.

Play online →

Two different products share this search. At Sun City, 'live' describes tables run by dealers — blackjack, American roulette, baccarat, poker and dice across roughly 30 to 40 tables that open later in the day. 'Live betting' in the online sense means in-play wagering on sport or horse racing, and in South Africa that is lawful only with a bookmaker licensed by a provincial gambling board. Interactive online casino games are a third category and are not licensed here at all.

What the tables are like in practice

The live area of a resort casino is smaller and calmer than the machine floor, and it runs on a schedule. Tables open later in the day and stay busy through the evening, which is why the same room can feel empty at eleven in the morning and full at nine at night. Minimums are posted at each table, and the higher-limit Salon Privé room sits apart from the main hall with its own range and its own admission rules.

Etiquette matters more here than at a machine. Buy in with rand at the seat rather than handing money to a dealer, keep chips in front of you, and ask before touching cards at games where the house deals. None of it is complicated, but it makes the difference between a comfortable first visit and an awkward one.

Where South African law draws its lines

The National Gambling Act of 2004 sets the framework, and provincial boards issue the actual licences — nine of them across the country, with the North West Gambling Board covering this resort. A casino licence permits machines and tables on a defined floor. It does not extend to serving casino games over the internet.

Betting is regulated separately. A bookmaker licensed by a provincial board may take bets on sport and horse racing, including in-play, and that is the only mainstream form of lawful online gambling in the country. The national regulator restated in February 2026 that interactive online casino games remain outside the system, and a proposed remote gambling bill introduced in 2024 had still not been passed by 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bet in-play on sport at the casino?
The casino floor is licensed for machines and tables. Sports and horse-racing betting sits under a separate bookmaker licence, which is the form of gambling South African law does allow online through licensed operators.
Are the live tables the same as an online live-dealer studio?
No. The tables at Sun City are physical, staffed and inside a licensed venue. Live-dealer casino streams played for money over the internet are not licensed in South Africa.
What time do the tables open?
Later in the day, running into the early hours, while the machines run around the clock. Exact hours vary by day and public holiday, so confirm with the venue before travelling.
